  The Batch Meet 2007

The much anticipated Batch Meet 2007 took shape at the Fortune Resort, Mahabalipuram beach on the last weekend of July. The local organisers, VBN, Sunder, Kumaravel, Babu Manohar and others teamed up with great "Enthu" and made it happen.

This meet, although starting off quite lazily with fears of how many may not attend, ended up with more Classmates attending with their family than expected, only punctuated by their greetings, warm hugs, laughter and smiles!

The Resort saw Classmates trickle in slowly, on Saturday afternoon, welcomed by the reception team with a lovely shell garland and being escorted to our cottages, in a golf buggy. We then had a hearty lunch with a welcome drink. We were also issued ID badges but none needed them to identify each other. The vast majority of them have not metamorphosized beyond recognition!

The afternoon was cool enough for an outdoor event. The host and hostess kept us on the hop with many games to tickle our brain and body. Our "kids" won more laurels than us, not surprisingly. Our class boys and girls started to break ice after the hello and started "vaa di...poo di" conversation and the boys rekindled the spirits with "macchi" etc. Chellapandian's birthday was celebrated, on the Saturday.

The evening saw the introduction of Classmates, hosted by Sunder with Appachi, Murthy and Iyer playing the "violin". We learnt what our classmates were doing currently, what they had accomplished, academically and otherwise, so far. They also revealed what kind of genetic transmission had taken place with a sense of pride. Many of our “kids” were already doing graduation either as a medic or engineer! Some of them were sporty, unlike some of us. Some of the classmates talked of the laurels acclaimed, titles won, charity made...etc. But the majority  of us chose to re-live and talk of the many precious moments in our lives, either in the college or hostel.

The night was still young when some of us had some Scottish water too to lighten us for the start of a typical "Stanley baila" as part of a variety entertainment. The girls in fact, overtook the boys with a jiggle or two and also had their own very special train. The “Super Sevens” (minus Harshila) were still “Songis”! The girls were made even more glamorous with a free "Mehendi" and there was a killi josiyam as well that evening! Diner did not wet our appetite and many danced and talked with everyone. There was laughter and smiles all the way through till the wee hours of the morning. Some of us retired to the cottages, leaving the family in and continued the gossip on the outside, as if in Stanley.

Sunday dawned to a slightly wet start but  this did not deter a few early birds to take a dip and swim. PJ and Gowri celebrated their(age not revealed) birthday. The introduction session continued into the second day. Lunch was served early for us to say bye to our friends. We were given some goodies and DVDs to take home to savour as mementos....

There was also a brain storming session for the Classmates only and it was decided to arrange another meet in 2010 or 2011. VBN and Co have assured us of a new address book to keep in touch.

Parakkal has kindly uploaded a few photos in the site gallery for you to have a taste of the atmosphere over the two lovely and unforgettable days!

Warm Wishes and Regards,
